A Continuation of Creation

“Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day” (Genesis 1:3-5).
This image brought the first creation story of Genesis to mind. Even though in the story light was created on the first day, thus making the trees oddly out of place, it seems to my eye that the camera captured some of the energy and power evoked by the idea of God speaking all there is into being.
It is helpful to be reminded of this foundational story of faith from time to time. It speaks of chaos and God’s spirit moving over the dark waters. It speaks of the power of God to make something out of nothing and to bring order out of disorder. The creation reveals the imagination of God and points to the beautiful, amazing thought that we are a part of God’s world, just as God is a part of our world.
Each day is a continuation of creation. God is not finished with things yet. God is not finished with us yet. The Spirit still moves over the dark waters of life. God still has the power to bring order to the chaos of the world, or the chaos of our hearts. God can still make something out of what we can only see as nothingness. What power and majesty! How worthy to be praised!
Peace.
